Questions before you choose?

How do I choose between Flex10 and Flex20?

Choose by the distance from the camera lens to where birds will land: Flex10 is designed for a recommended viewing distance of 3–10 inches, while Flex20 is designed for 8–20 inches. Both offer Camera Only and Ready-to-Watch Kit options. These are viewing distances, not motion-detection ranges.

What is the difference between Camera Only and the kit?

Camera Only includes the Flex10 camera, without the Gooseneck Mount or 2W Solar Panel. The Ready-to-Watch Kit includes all three. A feeder or bird bath is not included.

Will it work with my existing feeder?

Flex10 is a separate camera, so you can position it near an existing feeder, bird bath, or perch. Check that your mounting surface fits the chosen mount and that birds will be 3–10 inches from the camera lens.

Does bird identification require a subscription?

No. Core AI Bird ID is included for life without a required paid subscription. This does not mean every App feature or cloud storage option is free or unlimited. Optional services and storage may have separate terms.

What do I need for setup?

You need the COOLFLY App, a compatible mounting position, and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal at the installation spot. Charge and pair the camera before positioning it outdoors. The solar panel supports charging in suitable sunlight.

Customers praised this bird camera for its "clear" image quality, easy setup, and free AI identification. The solar panel "keeps the battery charged without any issues" and the app is "clean, easy to understand, and very well laid out." Some noted the mounting arm is "short" and "limited," requiring careful positioning for optimal angles.

Really Nice Bird Camera with a Great App

I’ve been very happy with this bird camera. The overall quality feels good, the camera housing and mounting setup feel sturdy, and once installed it stays where you put it without feeling flimsy.

Installation was straightforward. The flexible mounting arm makes it easy to position the camera where you want it, and the solar panel setup is a nice touch because it cuts down on having to constantly think about charging.

The camera quality is also very good for this type of setup. The image is clear enough to actually enjoy watching what is happening around the feeder, and the close-range view works especially well for seeing birds up close.

The app is probably one of my favorite parts. The interface is clean, easy to understand, and very well laid out. Live view, recordings, photos, visitor history, and the bird identification features are all easy to get to without digging through a bunch of menus. It feels much more polished than I expected.

It is also just fun to use. Being able to check in on the feeder, see which birds stopped by, and look back through recent activity adds a lot of enjoyment beyond just having a normal feeder in the yard.

Overall, I really like this setup. It feels sturdy, installation is easy, the camera looks good, and the app is very well done. Between the camera quality, solar charging, bird identification, and the overall ease of use, this has been a really enjoyable addition to the yard.

Clear images, easy setup

This is a fun little camera. I like it for several reasons:
~It isn't attached to a feeder, so you can get it out of the way of nighttime scavengers
~Adjustable gooseneck lets you set it up for just about any angle you wish
~Solar power recharges onboard battery, battery life is adequate
~Night shots are good quality, too
~Easy to install / attach to pole or branch with included mount
~no fee app included for those who wish to use the AI features

The images are pretty crisp and clear if you've got the distance to the target set up correctly, but it's pretty versatile on how you can use it to capture photos/video. It is at the upper end of the price range for what you get, but I think that is offset by the promise of an actual usable app with no subscription fees. I've paid this much (or more) for trail cameras that don't offer the solar feature and are about the same quality pics.

Overall takeaway: Easy to use, serviceable camera. Lots of fun to see who is showing up in your backyard at all hours of the day or night. Decent quality and fair value if you take advantage of the additional features offered in the app.

Great for the kids!

I've wanted one of these bird watching cameras for quite some time. I've been tempted in the past to get cameras attached to a bird house, but I definitely prefer this model at it can be used with any existing bird feeder your birds are familiar with.

The solar panel is small, but does a great job charging the battery. Definitely a plus for hassle free use. The camera quality is great and it definitely seems like it should hold up to the elements. I love the fact that the app doesn't require a subscription, which only makes this an even better value.

Great for the bird watcher

We are really enjoying this bird camera. It was easy to connect to the Wi-Fi and stays connected in the backyard. Of course, that depends on your router's signal strength. It is built sturdily. The arm is a little awkward to move to where you need it, but it works well. We really like the app also. I love that it's free. It correctly lets us know what types of birds have visited our feeder. The pictures are also really clear. We love this.

Great quality and addictive fun

Set up was easy - you do need your own type-c charger for the initial charge, though the included solar panel so far is working great for me outdoors. My tech-guy bf also set up a guest wifi with it's own password and security (I recommend googling this).
You can subscribe for access to more features on the Coolfly app, but I'm very satisfied with what's available in the "free" version. Motion detection, video, bird ID and some social features are fun to engage with. I'm impressed by the camera quality - the picture and sound is great! Uploading a video of a cardinal visitor in early dawn so you can see how it looks in low light. DO position the camera with the sun at it's back if you can. Fortunately, this is easy to move around and adjust. The IDs are impressive but may be limited if you are used to something like Merlin Bird ID. There are species in the database that aren't typical to my region (though most are covered), and the app has no idea what a squirrel or chipmunk is (birds only :-)

Works very well at identifying birds

This camera works great at identifying birds. The solar power is nice so the camera retains charge for up to a week and even longer depending on sunlight. Even in rainy cloudy weather, after 3 days of nonstop rain the camera still had 50% charge. The battery in the camera is pretty large, it holds a long charge that can last 3 days on all the time by itself with not solar charger connected. The solar panel is strong and sturdy, it holds up well to outdoor use, and comes with a long cable to connect it to the camera even placed at a small distance.

The arm could be more flexible, it is not that adjustable, about a 90 degree curving bend is the most you can bend it. The clamp is also a bit small, if you attach the solar panel to the clamp it has very little opening room, just over an inch, and can not clamp onto strong branches or poles. The arm with the clamp could be improved to make it more useful. The device does come with the option of mounting it using screws. The camera can also just be placed on a shelf or rail, not necessary to mount it, but it has to be something that is not swaying in the wind. You can not use it through glass, like from indoors, it says that it has to be outdoors for the motion detector to work properly.

The app is great, it really does a good job of organizing all the captures and you can see it by bird species. For example, I can see just the visits by cardinals, choose the species from the menu and see when cardinals visited. It captures audio as well, pretty good sound even in a bit of wind the birds are very clear. You can also control camera settings through the app. For night, you can have the camera sleep during the times you set, it can capture black and white footage, or it can capture color with a light if you don't mind spooking the visiting animals. You can be out of the home and check to see a live feed, or watch what birds visited and listen to them, it is very relaxing. I am impressed with how well this bird camera works, well designed and thougt out.

Such a fun way to watch the birds!

My family has loved with this bird camera! It was easy to set up, and I love that the solar panel keeps it powered without having to constantly charge it. The camera makes it so fun to look at the birds! The boys think it’s so fun checking to see what shows up. We keep it next to our bird feeder and it has just been so much fun!

Sharp close-up feather views right from the backyard fence

I clamped the gooseneck arm onto a post near our garden bird bath, and it's given a nice close view of whatever's stopping by. The camera stays focused at close range, has picked up feather detail and water droplets pretty clearly, better than some wider angle cameras I've tried before.

Setting up the wifi connection through the app was quick, and getting alerts whenever a bird lands has honestly become a bit addictive to check throughout the day. The small solar panel on top has kept the battery charged under normal sunlight, haven't needed to run a cord out to it. There's also AI recognition built in that identifies species without any ongoing subscription, which was a nice surprise.

Night clips have come through in color and looked clearer than I expected when something wanders by after dark. The casing has held up fine through an unexpected sprinkler soak too, no issues there. Been a fun, low maintenance way to keep an eye on backyard visitors so far.

Absolutely thrilled!!

This camera is amazing!! I love the ease of connecting and the clarity it shows up to and beyond 20”. Of course, as with any outdoor camera, you must be diligent about ensuring the waterproofing around the connections are properly sealed and pointing in a downward direction to avoid water damage.

I highly recommend this camera, using the COOLFLY App!!

Bird ID Camera

This is a good quality camera with a few issues. The mounting arm is short and very limited on what it can be attached to. It can go directly onto a bird feeder pole but it has to be positioned very close to be able to identify the birds correctly. I wish it had different mounting options. The video quality is great. It's been easy to figure out and I have fun looking at the different birds and sometimes squirrels in the background. I have it very close to my house so I have had no connection issues.

Better than expected

I was surprised at how good this was. Now granted, I have nothing to compare it to. But, it seems good quality. It set up fairly easily. I only used the solar panel, but it seems you can plug it into a regular usb-c plug if wanted.
I don't love that you have to set up an account to use it, but that is typical in this day and age.
Price is good. I've seen other cameras for about the same price with no hardware to install or a solar panel.
So this is a great deal IMO. Video quality isn't perfect. It's a bit laggy, but I would expect that of a camera of this type. Connected real fast with no issues. I got it for my brother, so I only looked at the basics... made sure it hooked up and actually took video you could see on the app. And it does. But I can't speak to how easy the rest of the app is to use, or about notifications. I'll leave that up to him as he's more techy than I am.
But overall it's a thumbs up, highly recommend.

Great way to bird watch!

I recently got this smart bird camera and I'm happy with how easy it was to get everything up and running. I was able to connect to my home WiFi quickly, and the instructions for charging the unit and setting up the camera outdoors were clear. I did have to search for a second to find the power button since it is neatly tucked under the rubbery flap covering the charging connection, but once I found it, everything fell into place. The picture quality is fantastic! Can’t wait to capture my tiny hummers!!
I have signed up for the 7-day free trial to check out the AI bird identification features. I hate to sign up for subscriptions but this might be one that is a must for me.
On a side note, setting this up on my patio actually coincided with a bit of a wildlife headache. I had to take down my hummingbird feeder recently because rats were damaging it—something that has never happened in the 10 years I have been feeding and enjoying these little birds. I am setting my feeder back up and will see what action unfolds! Necessary rat removal will commence should it be required. My hummingbirds need the food, especially with colder months coming.
The camera has been working very well and gives a great view of what's happening outside. The pictures I’ve added are of the patio, the view of the camera mounted in a tree with the solar panel set to capture the sun and the camera view.
I love this camera!! Gonna be fun!

An easy-to-use device for birdwatching

A well-designed and well-made device that takes you up close and personal with visiting birds. Assembly and setup was quite easy. The camera quickly connected to the home Wifi and maintained a strong connection. The mounting clamp was large enough to allow me to attach the camera and solar panel to a tree branch near the feeder (as shown in the photo). The sensitivity of the motion detection is adjustable so as to be able to detect birds while minimizing triggering by other movement, e.g., swaying leaves. The free Basic membership plan includes recording up to 20 seconds in length with cloud storage of the videos for up to three days. The bird shown feeding in the attached recording was automatically identified by the app as being a House Finch. Pretty impressive!

Easy to place and versatile usage

I love these cameras. It is a nice heavy duty and weatherproof design. The battery lasts all day and night and charges during the day via the included solar panel. Set up is a breeze and it’s connected to my existing COOLFLY app with no problems. I currently view 3 cameras through the app and it’s pretty seamless viewing one camera to the next. You can have up to 5 cameras on the free version of the app. The bird ID is free and does not require a subscription which is nice. The app also has a social element that allows you to post and share and view the videos of other members . It’s a nice and fun way to enjoy the nature in your backyard close up.
This particular camera is camera only and can be moved and placed in various locations. I currently have it attached to a bird bath but may move it around some this winter. My other two are enclosed in bird feeders. I would recommend this brand of camera and the app is nice even its free version.
It does not include a non solar charger but any standard charger can be used. Just be sure to read the directions on what type of charger to use. I suppose it could just be charged outside using the sun as well. It comes partially charged.

Easy to install

This Smart Bird Camera with Solar Panel works extremely well. The visual quality is excellent, and the AI bird ID is accurate. There is a subscription service available for $5.95 that covers two cameras, but it’s optional. The solar panel is included and keeps the camera charged without any issues.
I purchased the gooseneck clamp separately so I could place the camera exactly where I wanted it. I set the feeder on my bird bath and hid the camera on a nearby tree branch, and it blends in perfectly. The picture and video quality are crisp, and the setup has been reliable. Very pleased with this one.

Good quality and no subscription required EVER.

The COOLFLY Flex10 Smart Bird Camera is an awesome gadget for outdoor bird watching and identification at feeders or bird baths. Perfect for bird lovers or anyone who enjoys visits from wild birds, it includes the camera (5.71" × 2.95" × 9.84"), a bendable gooseneck arm, a 2W solar panel, a USB charging cable, and a quick start guide. Initial connection can be slow during the setup. If you have a dual-band router (2.4GHz + 5GHz), make sure 2.4GHz is enabled before setup. Some newer routers have 5GHz-only options, which won't work with this camera. Just mount it 3–10 inches from where birds land, connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, download the COOLFLY app, and enjoy real-time alerts, automatic video recording, and free AI bird identification with no subscription. The solar panel keeps the 4400mAh battery powered all day, and features include 2.5K video with full-color night vision, day and night recording, IP65 splash resistance, horizontal or vertical recording, plus tools like a visitors log and bird alerts. Its sharp close-up footage, simple setup, and subscription-free AI bird ID make it a great buy for its mid-range price. For the best results, face the solar panel toward the sun. Setup is quick with step-by-step instructions and QR code pairing, requiring no extra parts or skills. During initial setup, the camera makes loud beeping sounds while connecting to Wi-Fi. This is normal but concerned me at first since I am technologically challenged. The app offers an intuitive dashboard with Bird Alerts, a Daily Visitors log, one-tap bird ID, and easy video downloads. Strong Wi-Fi performance keeps it connected up to 150+ feet away, with smooth live streaming and no frequent drops. Note: it only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and won’t work on 5GHz-only networks. If you have a dual-band router (2.4GHz + 5GHz), make sure 2.4GHz is enabled before setup. Unbeknownst to me, some newer routers have 5GHz-only options, which won't work with this camera. At the listed price, the Flex10 sits between the budget options and the premium 4K options. Unlike the budget cameras that require paid subscriptions after a free trial, the Flex10 includes permanently free AI bird identification and having no ongoing costs ever, makes the Flex10 a great value. Brand: COOLFLY Flex10

Clear close up pictures

Appears to be of good quality and set up is fairly easy. The camera itself provides sharp pictures at close range. From the attached picture you can clearly read the first page of the instruction manual at a distance of 6 inches. According to the manual…the camera is focused at 3-10 inches and that works well. Mounting the camera to allow for solar battery charging…3-10 inches from your bird feeder…and not facing the sun is the tricky part. Though flexible mounting hardware is provided it will likely take a bit of ”engineering “ to properly mount the camera. It would of earned 5 stars had it been easier to mount. Also note that the camera only works with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Easy to Set Up and Use, doesn't bother the birds.

A nice compact bird camera that is easy to set up and use. The description mentions that mounting accessories are not included but mine came with everything needed to mount it to a pole or fence. Downloading the software was quick and easy, as was the pairing to my phone and wi-fi.

Pictures are very sharp and clear. Once you get beyond the 10-inch focus range the picture is still clear but it starts to fisheye a little bit. The software helps you identify what types of birds are coming to your feeder. The only thing I had to add was a micro sd card so I could store pics on the device.

Make sure to fully charge the camera with a standard C cable prior to putting it on to solar or it will take a long time to charge. I didn't try it as such but would make a great nesting box camera for barn owls, etc.

Clear Image, Easy to Set Up

The Coolfly Smart Bird Camera is a great purchase or all nature lovers! The solar panel power source is tremendous in our sunny climate, the image is very crisp on the app and an additional bonus is the bird identification resource. The night vision is a little poor but comparable to a trail cam. Since most birds are out and about during the morning, the night vision doesn't bother me at all. I positioned the camera at the 8 in. distance mark and have a great view of our hummingbird feeder and platform. Securing it was simple and it has stayed put despite our windy area. 5 stars!

Easy to configure and seems to work well, but the set-up sounds are obnoxious.

We have bird feeders in both the front and back yards. Unfortunately, we have been lazy and have not been keeping the feeders filled this summer. When this camera arrived, that gave me the motivation to clean and fill all of the feeders. Even though the feeders are all filled, we have only had a few visits form an American Goldfinch in the four days this has been active. We have not seen any activity directly, but the camera/app have captured these visits. The video is nice and clear and is available below. I may find a different location to mount this so it can capture more of the feeders. The box indicates the range as being 3” to 10”, but the seed cylinder shown in this video is about 4 feet from the camera and the video still seemed crisp.

The camera took a long time (>6 hours) to initially charge. After charging, I downloaded the Coolfly app and proceeded to get the camera configured. During this configuration process, the camera makes a horrible loud beeping noise – and unfortunately, it took quite a while to connect…hopefully I won’t have to go through that again.

The mounting was very simple and it clamped securely to one of the hooks on the bird feeder as shown in the attached photos. The solar panel and the gooseneck mounted to this bracket. The USB cable is very difficult to get plugged in, probably due to rubber gasketing to keep water out. Initially I left the long USB cable dangling, and it pulled out the plug. Luckily the camera had enough charge to survive the lack of power. I have now twist=tied the USB bundle to the hook, so hopefully this won’t happen again. The app indicates that we have about 31% power remaining, and it is overcast, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to recharge.

Sharp Picture Quality, Sensitivity Issues

The COOLFLY Smart Bird Camera with Solar Panel is an overall good unit. The picture quality is great (see video). The colors are true, the picture is sharp and in focus.
Set up was very easy and straight forward. The included instructions are clear and easy to follow. Once the app is downloaded, installed and your user account is set up, the rest is a snap. Videos are automatically stored in the app’s “Album” and from there they can be downloaded, posted, deleted and more.
There are a lot of neat features available, such as bird identification, connecting with other birdwatchers, sharing your videos and so much more.
I do have one major issue, however, and it is the reason for the 4 Star rating. The unit’s sensitivity settings are limited (Low, Medium, High). On both Medium and High, even the slightest breeze that moves branches with trigger the camera. On the low setting, small birds (and most are small) do not trigger the unit to record. I have a pair of hummingbirds and unless they fly directly in front of the camera, it will not trigger.
I will try moving the unit around to try to find angles that won’t include branches, but bird feeders are supposed to be close to trees and bushes to allow quick access to cover when needed.
All else with this unit is top notch. Just be mindful of where you can position the unit to minimize false triggers from the wind.
4 STARS AND I DO RECOMMEND THIS ITEM
